What is Mediation ?
__

Mediation is a dispute resolution process offering an alternative method of resolving disputes prior to litigation or during litigation.  A trained mediator acts as a neutral third party and facilitates negotiations between individuals in conflict.  The focus is on assisting the parties’ to identify their issues, needs, and interests. The mediator helps the disputants in determining and creating options to promote a mutually satisfying resolution.

Mediation is a confidential voluntary process that offers a non-adversarial environment.  Although in court-annexed or court-referred mediation programs the parties may be ordered to attend a mediation session, any settlement is entirely voluntary.  In the absence of settlement the parties retain their right to take their conflict before a judge or jury.

All mediators at Peacemaker are professionals specially trained and registered by the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution.  Additionally, they are members of the Association of Conflict Resolution, a national organization.
